CHICAGO–(The Chicago Tribune)–has teamed up with Chicago-based Cellit to launch a mobile marketing program called “QuickText” that allows job seekers to receive help-wanted listings via text message. With the debut of the new program, the Chicago Tribune believes it has become the first U.S. newspaper to offer a mobile alternative to job searching.
According to Cellit Mobile Marketing President David Wachs, QuickText offers busy, on-the-go job seekers an immediate link between offline and online resources. “It’s hard for many people to find the free time to search for jobs,” said Wachs. “The beauty of QuickText is that it can be used anywhere and anytime. A popular time seems to be while commuting on public transportation.”
QuickText job listings are featured in the Chicago Tribune’s business section on Sundays and Tuesdays, as well as in RedEye, the newspaper’s quick-read daily, on Mondays. The papers run several pages of job listings currently available online at CareerBuilder.com. By texting the job’s unique WEB ID to a specific number, job seekers immediately receive detailed information on that particular position and can “opt in” to have the listing sent to their email addresses to review later.
“New technologies like QuickText help traditional media compete for the attention of today’s tech-savvy consumer,” added Wachs. Cellit Mobile Marketing plans to launch similar mobile text marketing programs for both real estate and automotive listings in theChicago Tribune in the next few months.
